Wythe Raceway’s High Speed High Banks Await the Lucas Oil Late Model Series

Rural Retreat, Virginia – Wythe Raceway, located just off of I-81 in Rural Retreat, Virginia, will once again play host to the traveling stars of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on Saturday, June 22nd. The $10,000 to win event will divide well over $43,000 amongst the 24 drivers that start the Blue Ridge 50 at the ½ mile high-banked oval. “We always look forward to having the Lucas guys come up to Wythe. The guys they bring to compete are second to none. Guys like Owens, Bloomquist, Blankenship, Pearson and O’Neal thrive off of a big high speed track. So I think the speed and raceability here at Wythe will really allow those type guys to showcase their talent. We are going to have the track ready and in good shape for them so they can put on a good show for our fans.” said Wythe Raceway owner and promoter at Fred Brown who celebrates his 44th season at the helm of the track.

Wythe Raceway is highly regarded among Dirt Late Model drivers for its consistently fast and racy track surface. One of those guys that know Wythe Raceway best is Williamson, West Virginia’s John Blankenship. Blankenship scored the win in last year’s Blue Ridge 50 Lucas Oil Series event and he is an odds on favorite to repeat the feat next weekend. Blankenship is riding a recent series hot streak and new found consistency for the season. Blankenship scored a pair of victories in the month of May worth cool $30,000. Those wins along with his more consistent finishes this season has Blankenship sitting 2nd in Lucas Oil Championship points. And you can bet that the West Virginian is eyeing a run at that Lucas title worth over $75,000 in cash and prizes. Defending Lucas Oil Champion Jimmy Owens of Newport, Tennessee once again leads the standings at the time of this release.

Wythe Raceway is always looking to give fans a complete entertainment experience when they visit the facility. To that end fans will find several features at Wythe put in place to enhance their visit and keep them informed. Each week Wythe distributes a 4-page color program which provides much information about the track and its drivers. Race fans can also stay updated a follow along with LIVE timing and scoring on every lap via the Race Monitor app available for most smart phones. And, as with all Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events, there will be a drivers’ autograph session scheduled from 6:00 until 6:45 in the main grandstands.  The Grandstand gates are set to open at 10:00 AM to allow fans to come in and grab their favorite seats. Adult general admission is $25 with kids 11-15 just $10. Pit gates open at 4 PM with pit passes $35. The drivers’ meeting is scheduled for 7 PM.
