Ferguson wins the Carolina Clash

Pro Mini driver Tanner Cook, Max Meadows won the race and Rural Retreat’s Kevin Atwell won the Wythe Raceway Track Championship. Travis Harden, Marion was second followed by Atwell. Shane King, Wytheville was fourth followed by Brad Carpenter, Lansing, NC; Billy Cline, Rural Retreat; Chuck Kinzer, Woodlawn and Dakota Wilson, Rural Retreat.

Randy Stroupe, Wytheville won his first race of the season with Jacob Thomas, Marion in second. Kayla Surber, Sugar Grove was third followed by: Ethan Atwell, Wytheville; Danny Tate, Rural Retreat; Ricky Ward, Marion; Tyler Dowell, Marion; Austin Hedrick, Wytheville; Pie Short, Abingdon and Richard Shupe, Sr, Bluefield, WV.

 Amber Huffman, Chilhowie won the That’s My Dress KCAR race in the youth division for drivers between the ages of 12 and 15. Marion’s Tanner Tate was second followed by Jacob Jacob Harmon, Abingdon; Caroline King, Wytheville; Logan Anderson, Meadowview and Samantha Atwell, Rural Retreat.

Justin Blevins, Marion started in the eighth position and raced his way through field to challenge Marion’s Morgan Widener for the win with a few laps remaining. Coming to the checkered flag Blevins was first followed by Widener; R K Dix, Rural Retreat; J R Davis, Crockett; Brandon McClure, Troutdale; Richard Shupe, Jr; Bluefield, WV; Duke Bare, Meadowview; Michael Hedrick, Wytheville; Austin Brooks, Kingsport, TN and Zach Mathena, Marion.

Jerry Dillow of Bluefield, WV won the always exciting R & C Super Street race by beating Duke Bare to the finish line. Keith Griffitts, Sugar Grove was third and won the Wythe Raceway 2017 Track Championship. Dale Hancock, Jr, Atkins; Randy Taylor, Chilhowie; Bobby Helton, Chilhowie; Tony Parks, Stuart; Cody Rhymer; Bristol, TN; Jeff Doss, Abingdon and Tim Waller, Max Meadows rounded out the top ten.

The Carolina Clash Super Late Model race had one of the most competitive field of drivers with Chris Ferguson, Mt Holley, NC winning the 40 lap feature event. Michael Brown, Pageland, SC   held off Vic Hill, Mosheim, TN for second. Dennis “Rambo” Franklin, Gaffney, SC was fourth followed by: Walker Arthur, Forest, VA; Zach Mitchhell, Enoree, SC;   Billy Hicks, Mt Airy, NC; David Yandle, Josh Langley, and Scott Shirey were the top ten.

This completes the 47 year of stock car racing at Wythe Raceway. The Rattlesnake Hare 

Scrambles race will be on Sunday, October 15th.  Over 400 riders are expected to race on the eight mile course that utilizes the infield and race track, a special “Enduro Cross” section, a motorcross and miles of woods, rocks, uphills, downhills and some “mud holes”. Admission is $5.00. Mini races at 9 am, morning main race at 10:30 and afternoon races at 1:30
