Wythe Raceway had a packed schedule Saturday night along with a packed house of fans excited to see some dirt fly. The NRV Furniture UCARS never cease to amaze. Travis Quesenberry from Atkins was the powerhouse of the night pulling away from the field on all starts to capture the only flag that matters. Daniel Wright, Wytheville Britt Johnson, Chilhowie Brian Tate, Wytheville and Hunter Buchanan also from Wytheville ran a hard race for second. Buchanan and Tate were involved in a accident ending their night. Johnson with only a couple laps left to go got loose coming out of turn 2 and Wright took advantage and took over his second-place spot. Johnson brought home third. Followed by Boomer Wilson, Rural Retreat Cole Dutton, Marion Dakota Wilson, Rural Retreat Ethan Atwell, Wytheville Will Hostetler Wytheville and Andrew Hudgins Bluewell WV to round out the hard-fought positions.
FASTRAK Late Models had twin 20 lap feature races. The first 20 laps was a caution free race. The front two cars of Terry Cregger from Crockett and Tyler Arrington from Honaker battled the whole race. On lap 12 the two caught the rear of the field and the next lap around Cregger got loose coming out of turn four leaving Arrington enough room and time go get past. Arrington won the first Late Model race of the night followed by Cregger, Brent Hilton, Rural Retreat Kenney Peeples, Rural Retreat and Trevor Cregger Crockett. The next race was an invert of the top six. With only one caution in this race we still saw excitement for everyone was trading paint and positions like it was nothing. Kenny Peeples Jr was victorious this time around. Followed by Hilton, Trevor Cregger, Arrington and Teddy Tate from Rural Retreat.
This week was the Widener and Davis show in the Wythe Eye Modifieds. Morgan Widener, Chilhowie and J.R. Davis from Crockett battled for the lead for half of the 20-lap feature. Widener made his move on Davis and took home yet another trophy for the mantel with Davis taking second. Third went to Tim Widener also from Chilhowie who hadn’t been in a race car for many years. Fourth went to Richard Shupe of Bluefield WV.
Fan Favorite R&C Super Streets always keep fans on their feet. Terry Sharp a driver from Woodlawn and Mike Keith from Rural Retreat started on the front row for the green flag. Sharp kept the lead for eight laps until him Keith and Jerry Dillow from Bluefield ,WV had an accident coming out of turn two. Keith got his front running spot back and came back to win his second race in a row. Many more top running drivers including Dale Hancock, Atkins Keith Griffitts, Sugar Grove and Michael Deskins from Tazewell all pushed, beat and banged there way around the half mile clay oval. Second went to Hancock followed by Duke Bare, Meadowview Griffitts, Deskins and Dillow for the to six.
Kevin Atwell may have gotten his mojo back after a rough week last Saturday. Atwell lead every lap of the pro mini race in a perfect groove not letting anyone by him for the 15-lap feature. The next four drivers to finish the caution free race behind him were Travis Harden, Marion Shane King, Wytheville Chuck Kinzer, Woodlawn and Tanner Cook, Max Meadows.
Vintage Sportsman, Vintage Modifieds, Vintage Limited Modifieds and Vintage Limited Sportsman also took on the high banks of Wythe Raceway for an exciting show. Some of our local drivers also competed in this class including Fred Brown himself. Larry Dowell and Jeff Doss were also in the mix. Tom Nodes, Larry Dowell, Ray Lacy and Ray Agee was the top finishers.
