2009 was a breakout season for 25 year old JR Davis of Crockett. In just his first full season in the Pro Mini Division, JR surprised many by earning 3 hard fought victories during the 2009 season. JR, while not racing a complete season and battling several weeks of bad luck
early on, managed 9 top 5’s, and 11 top 10 finishes to go along with his 3 wins.
JR spent many hours working on other people’s race cars before stepping out and racing on his own. “I used to help drivers like Tony and Matt Parks, Daniel Moss, and Jim and Daniel Baggerly. Working on their cars made me realize what I really wanted to do was race. So when I got the chance, I took it and am very happy that I did!” Davis went on to add that he keeps racing for the excitement of it and the adrenaline rush he gets from it. “I also race for my family and fans! They have always believed in me and have supported me from day one.”
JR feels his greatest accomplishment in racing has yet to come, but so far what he is most proud of is his back to back to back wins in 2009 and being able to be competitive against the best competition without their level of experience. His most embarrassing moment happened one night during his rookie year. “The race was shortened because we reached the time limit and I was not paying attention. They threw the checkered flag and I proceeded to run right into the back of Jerry Dillow.”
JR’s biggest influence in racing is Late Model Racer Josh Richards. Josh has unlimited potential and is still so young, and has already accomplished so much. “My heroes would be my family and Cheryl and Tommy Turner of Holston Trucking. They all believed in me when nobody else did and they are always there when I need a helping hand,” said Davis about his heroes.
Helping JR work on the car this year are Holston Trucking, Kelly Meadows, Jason Gregory, Kerry Frye, my wife Megan, daughter Kylea, Mom and Dad, and the whole Davis family. Sponsoring the 2010 season will be RBR Racecars, Paul Tamer, Holston Trucking, Back in Time Diner, NDM Machine, and Nitro Fotos.
JR would like to thank the “best wife any man could have” Megan, Kylea, Cheryl and Tommy Turner, everyone at Holston Trucking, Mom and Dad, his sisters: Carla, Selinda, and Heather, his brother-in-law Jason Gregory, Kerry Frye, The Byrd Family, and all his friends and fans! “Without all of their help and support, there is no way I could race. My only hope is that I can make each and everyone of them proud of me in everything I do!”
